Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter (born March 26 1991) better known by her real surname Ari Lennox is an American musician and singer born in Washington, D.C. She is the first female artist to be signed to J. Cole's record label Dreamville Records. The first album she released with the label on October 21st, 2016, titled Pho. This is when she started to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby, her debut album, was released on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading music on the internet in 2012 when she launched her first mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in the year 2013. In 2014, she continued to make music available on the web including her self release single Bound. In 2015she sung on Omen's Elephant Eyes Album, performing the track "Sweat it out" on July 21. J. Cole, who was a part of the Dreamville crew at the time, wanted to have her work on Rihanna reference. In December, it was revealed 8th that she had been signed to Dreamville Records. Backseat was a track she performed together with Cozz for the Revenge of the Dreamers II album that they co-produced. She dropped Pho, her debut album on October 21st on the 21st of October in 2016. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's song Change and was an opening act on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in the year 2017. The following year, she went on to perform as a guest artist on two songs with her labelmates EarthGang in Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox's debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on 16 July 2018. First single, called Whipped Cream of the album dropped on September 5, 2018 with an accompanying music video. On November 9 she released two more singles called 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. Then, on November 13 she dropped two more singles, titled No One as well as Pdigree. She then appeared in the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track entitled Shea Butter Baby on November 16, which was then released as a single on February 26, 2019, to accompany her debut album with the same title. In February of 2019 the music video was made available for the song. It already has over three million views on YouTube within the first week. In December 2018, she performed as an opening act for The From East Atlanta With Love Tour along with 6LACK.
